Residents advised to have house-sitters when travelling

PARKVIEW – Althought other crimes were seemingly low in the area, house-break ins were the most reported cases during the festive season.

The festive season means travelling for most people and the Parkview police had to make their presence effective in the area.

Acting spokesperson at Parkview Police Station Lieutenant Colonel Ledwaba said that they had to deal with a few house break-ins during the holiday. “Most people went away during the holidays and criminals took that opportunity to break in and take away belongings in the houses.”

He added that there were indeed cases reported of such crimes in the area although other forms of crime were on the low.

Ledwaba advised, “When travelling, leave someone to look after your house, inform your neighbours. There may be security alarms but by the time security personnel arrive the burglars might have gone done a lot of damage, so it’s better if there is someone there to keep an eye on things.”

He said that people must look after each other as a community and rather work towards the prevention of crime.
