Renal patients experience delays in treatment at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital due to water outage

PARKTOWN – The hospital urges walk-in patients with non-urgent ailments to use clinics and hospitals closer to their residences.

Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Parktown wishes to inform the public of the water interruption they are experiencing as a result of the water outage at the Parktown Reservoir.

According to a statement from the hospital, the water tanks at the hospital are running at extremely low levels.

“Johannesburg Water has provided water tanks which are trying to service the most critical areas,” said Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital spokesperson Lungiswa Mvumvu.

“All emergency theatres will continue operating critical surgeries. Patients on renal treatment have been informed of delays in their treatment and the situation will be monitored closely. The most critical patients have already been connected for their dialysis treatment. A catch-up programme will be formulated once the water has been fully connected and patients will be scheduled accordingly,” said Mvumvu.
