After an activity-filled first day of school for the learners at Rosebank Primary School, the bell rang and it was time to go back home and share news about opening day. The learners were eager to share how they celebrated their classmate, Aaron Saber’s birthday.
Although Aaron himself didn’t have much to say due to excitement, his teacher Nicole Ford said that Aaron’s mother had surprised them in the morning. “She just brought in food and party packs enough for the whole class. So, we all finished off class by sharing in the cake and drinks as well as singing for Aaron.”
She said that this had been the best transition experience in 10 years as it went smoothly and the children were happy and couldn’t wait to tell stories. Ford also added that there were no tears this time.
Learner Thamsanqa Tyeza said that he behaved well on his first day of school and most of the others also said they ‘enjoyed’ their day and wanted to spend some more time at school instead of going home.
Principal of Rosebank Primary School Leigh Shaw-Taylor, who also had her first day as the new principal, said the day went very smoothly. “Most of the children arrived on time and were happy to be back at school. Teachers and groundsmen started work on Monday in preparation for the first day,” said Shaw-Taylor.
She thanked all the staff for their dedication and hard work in getting all the facilities ready.
The principal concluded, “I’d like to wish all the children at the school a very successful and happy 2019. I hope they achieve all the goals they have set for themselves. I also hope it is a successful year for the staff.”
