Highlands North Boys’ High rises up

HIGHLANDS NORTH – The deputy principal at the school has praised all the teachers for ensuring that their learners pass with flying colours.

Highlands North Boys’ High School has proved to be a force to be reckoned with after their Class of 2018 increased their percentage with 5.8 per cent in the final matric examinations.

The Johannesburg north-east based school showed significant progress compared to previous years. In 2018, the school achieved 96.7 per cent compared to 90.9 per cent attained in 2017, an accomplishment which was welcomed by the acting principal, Lawrence Nayager.

Nayager attributed their successful results to the teachers, saying they worked well with the learners to achieve such results. “It was not only learners and teachers in Grade 12 but all teachers in the school teaching in all the grades,” said Nayager.

“Remember these boys come into our school to start Grade 9 and they progress through until matric, so they were prepared also by other teachers in the lower grades. A big credit goes to all teachers.”

The boys had holiday classes, they were regularly assessed, teachers had meetings with their parents and the school also monitored them timeously to ensure better results.

Bongani Lunga, one of the top achievers at the school, achieved five distinctions after striving for six. However, he said he is happy with the results and even proud of himself adding that he worked very hard to achieve what he did. “I’m not disappointed that I didn’t get what I initially aimed for but instead I’m really proud of myself.

“My biggest achievement was physical science because I want to study chemical engineering and this is good for me,” he said.

Onakho Hlathi and Sphamandla Moyo also shared the same sentiments saying they are happy with their results and want to study further.

Hlathi plans to pursue film studies at the University of Durban and his friend Moyo will be studying law at Wits.

For 2019, Nayager said they want to achieve a 100 per cent pass rate.
