Ladysmith Black Mambazo backs Zuma’s music career

JOBURG – Mixed reactions amidst Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s planned collab with Jacob Zuma.

Last year, former President Jacob Zuma’s plans to take the music industry by storm surfaced after it was reported that he had reached an agreement with eThekwini Municipality to record his popular struggle songs.

EThekwini parks, recreation and culture head Thembinkosi Ngcobo said Zuma was expected to undertake live recordings of his famous struggle songs in April.

The move has been labelled as the preservation of heritage and has since seen world-renowned a cappella group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, jump on the bandwagon to sing alongside Zuma.

However, the group’s planned collaboration with the former president has been met with mixed reactions with some people threatening to burn their Black Mambazo CD collections while others even suggested similar musicians in light of the planned collaboration.

Zuma’s album is expected to be released prior to this year’s elections.
