Local hospitals welcome New Year’s babies

PARKTOWN – It was a busy night and day for the staff at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital and Parklane Hospital as they welcomed newcomers into the world on New Year's Day 2019.

What better way to usher in the new year than welcoming fresh blood and new souls into the world. The first day of the year 2019 saw a total of 25 babies being born at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH).

Of these 25, 14 were females and 11 were males.

Communications and public relations directorate at CMJAH, Lungiswa Mvumvu congratulated all the moms and babies. Mvumvu added, “We wish to encourage moms to breastfeed their babies as much as possible as breast milk has all the nutrients required for their well- being.  Public hospitals also ensure that all babies born are registered in the Home Affairs Births Register within seven days so they must take advantages of these services.”

Meanwhile, their neighbouring hospital, Netcare Parklane Hospital welcomed 11 babies on 1 January.
