JOBURG – Constitution Hill sets the tone for the City’s December events.

The development of Johannesburg was a result of the Gold Rush over a century ago, with news of the new-found treasure spreading worldwide and attracting a myriad of migrants from all over the world who came to rapidly populate the City of Gold.

Historians and researchers have been hard at work at Constitution Hill to unearth the antiquity and wealth of history well preserved within the walls of the precinct’s Old Fort Museum. In this space both the notorious and admirable passed through the gates of the historical gem.

From the legendary and often mythical figures of the underworld of Nongoloza, who to this day commands prison culture and affiliations, to the mythical Jack the Ripper all the way to the legendary Joe Slovo and our Beloved Tata Madiba, the wealth of stories have lain well persevered for decades of time. Today however these invaluable historical artefacts are being put on display in the Brand New Old Fort Exhibition which was launched on 5 December 2018.

“As Constitution Hill, the anticipation is palpable for us to present this historical treasure chest to the nation and beyond,’’ said Robertson.

Interactive projectors and live sounds of war will give a real-life tangible experience to all visitors, starting with the December Holiday crowds.

“We have worked with world-renowned historians and heritage experts from the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation as well as international museum display experts in the form of Formula D to bring to life the daily experiences of those who walked these walls into present-day reality,” said Dawn Robertson CEO of Constitutional Hill.
