Executive mayor Herman Mashaba has promised to spend R151 million this financial year to maintain and repair streetlights across the city.
Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck said, “In Region B, we now have an extra streetlight team who will work on suburban streets as well as one that will concentrate on the main arterial roads.”
Truluck said that residents must first log the problem with City Power via its website on www.citypower.mobi or via the City of Joburg call centre.
He encourages residents to send him the information here – residents must state the street light address as well as the pole number so that Truluck can collate a list to send to City Power.
“If people don’t log problems, they won’t get fixed. There is no one going around logging things,” said Truluck.
In a statement from the City, Mashaba explained that the budget allocation will see 8 500 street lights repaired in the current financial year.
Residents are also urged to report vandalism, theft, cable theft and vehicle collisions with street poles to 011 490 7911/ 011 490 7900/ 011 490 7504 / 011 490 7553 or at the nearest police station.
