Ward 73 councillor discusses 2018

HOUGHTON – Councillor Eleanor Huggett discusses her highs and lows in 2018.

Eleanor Huggett discussed the challenges and highlights she has experienced as Ward 73 councillor in 2018 with the Rosebank Killarney Gazette.

“Coming in on a by-election had its own challenges but the support I got, and still get from residents associations (RA), residents and varying organisations has been overwhelming… It has been the constant, generous communication from RAs, organisations and in particular the residents that have been so vital in resolving issues. I strongly suggest that every resident joins their local RA,” said Huggett.

She said that some of her greatest challenges this year have been worker’s forums coming in from other areas and threatening workers, backlogs in resources to resolve issues, crime, unemployment, displaced people living in local parks, vandalism and house hijackings. “Though not a quick fix, the good news is that we are working very hard to resolve these issues.

“What I would like to see in the very near future is to have every project in Ward 73 up and running and open to the long-suffering, beleaguered residents.”

She reported that the work on Paterson Park Recreation Centre is under a new contractor who will be cleaning the site until the end of 2018 with building and remedial work set to begin early in 2019.

Huggett reflected on the joys of her work as councillor saying that every day is different. “The greatest bonus for me has been getting to know so many amazing people.

“I would like to wish everyone a very restful break over December. I very much look forward to working with you all again in the New Year. Keep safe, keep healthy and once again, thank you for all your support.”
