Four children’s charities benefitted from a number of Christmas gifts donated by Zoo Trotters on 9 December.
Spokesperson for Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo Noeleen Mattera said, “We requested that Zoo Trotters donate toys to charities and bring along the Christmas spirit to the less privileged.”
Charities including The Character Company, St Vincent School for the Deaf, Sultan Bahu Centre and Abraham Kriel Bambanani joined the early morning walk around the zoo followed by a morning of face-painting and fun.
Mentor at The Character Company Thando Malepe said, “It’s a huge privilege to bring the kids here to explore, see the animals, meet new people and experience nature.”
He explained that the non-profit organisation benefits 100 fatherless boys between the ages of five and 18 through a long-term mentorship programme based in Krugersdorp.
Hundreds of Zoo Trotters also turned up on the day for the last event of the year, many of whom wore festive gear to get into the holiday spirit.
