JOBURG – #16SecondsofSilence and #NoExcuse tackles gender-based-violence.

From 25 November to 10 December every year, South Africa joins the rest of the world in taking a stand against violence on women and children.

As part of 16 Days of Activism this year, Carling Black Label has called on all men and women to take a stand against gender-based-violence with their #16SecondsofSilence for 16 Days of Activism campaign.

“We’re calling on all South Africans to join our cause and become champions for change by dedicating 16 seconds of silence on social media, as a way of showing respect, as well as to take just a small amount of time to reflect on the issue of GBV,” the brand said on its No Excuse website.

To take part in the cause, all South Africans are urged to join record themselves in silence for 16 seconds and post the video with #NoExcuse and #16SecondsofSilence to spread the word.

In addition to the online activism, the Newtown Junction was the meeting point for the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and South African Breweries (SAB) joint #NoExcuse campaign.

“About 250 men attended the campaign and they all affirmed that there is no excuse for women and children abuse,” said David Tembe, JMPD chief.
