Pothole finally fixed in Argyle Avenue

CRAIGHALL – The pothole which plagued motorists on Argyle Avenue has been fixed.

The large pothole on Argyle Avenue in Craighall has finally been repaired following months of issues on this road since June.

In June, Joburg Water was called to the site along Argyle Avenue between Jan Smuts and Alexandra avenues, to replace a leaking pipe that had caused a deep, muddy pothole to emerge.

According to Ward 90 councillor Martin Williams, who has been involved in the escalation of the problem to City entities, Joburg Water filled in the hole created by the repair job without a tar surface.

“The area had to be compacted and settle after the repair. Joburg Water advised that it be left for about five days before the JRA [Johannesburg Roads Agency] should come through to repair the road,” said Williams.

“The JRA took months to repair this site. They have had a huge backlog of these reinstatements. I reported it to them several times, the last of which was three weeks ago. I was pleased when I drove past a few days ago and saw that it had been sorted out,” said Williams.

The sinkhole that developed following the repair job caused serious traffic congestion at peak times.

“I’m glad to see it all fixed up and back in order. I encourage residents to please have patience with the City because we are trying,” said Williams.

The JRA had not responded to questions by the time of going to print.
