Shop owner arrested for attempting to murder rival

JOHANNESBURG – The arrested shop owner accused the victim of stealing his customers.

 

A 33-year-old shop owner was arrested for attempted murder for allegedly shooting at another shop owner.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station, Captain Xoli Mbele said that the arrest was made at the suspect’s store on the corner of Goud and Commissioner streets on 19 November at 6pm.

The attempted murder took place on 12 November. Mbele said that it is alleged that the suspect shot a 38-year-old male twice at the corner of Main and Goud streets at 12pm.

He added that the victim was inside his own shop when two males, one being the arrested suspect, entered and pointed a firearm at the victim and pulled him out of his shop. The two suspects accused the victim of stealing their customers.

“Two shots were fired at him but they missed, his accomplice stabbed the victim once in the upper body. He was taken to the nearest hospital by an ambulance,” said Mbele.

The police arrested the suspect who shot at the victim while his accomplice is still at large. The arrested suspect is expected to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon and an investigation is currently underway.
