Security guard arrested for illegal shotgun

JOHANNESBURG – The Joburg Central police arrested a 28-year-old security guard for possession of an unlicensed shotgun.

 

A 28-year-old security guard was arrested with an unlicensed shotgun and ammunition at Railway Park Station.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station, Captain Xoli Mbele said that the arrest occurred at the railway station at 7am on 5 November.

He added, “Police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties at Park Station bus terminals when they saw a suspicious male carrying a big bag. Police stopped and searched him. While searching his bag he tried to run away but he was cornered.

“Police recovered a shotgun with no serial number wrapped in a blanket with live rounds, he failed to produce a license to possess a firearm.”

The firearm is currently being tested to find out if it was involved in any other crimes while an investigation is underway. The suspect is in police custody and will appear at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
