Three arrested for armed robbery

JOHANNESBURG – Three suspects were arrested for armed robbery in Newtown.

 

Johannesburg Central Police arrested three suspects for alleged armed robbery on 4 November.

The spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Captain Xoli Mbele said the suspects aged between 22 and 26 years were arrested on the corner of the M1 highway and Carr Street in Newtown at about 10am.

He said, “It is alleged that the suspects robbed a 34-year-old male. The victim was driving a silver BMW and stopped after running out of petrol and was confronted by the suspects.”

Mbele added that one of the suspects threatened the victim with a knife while his accomplices took two cell phones and R200 cash from him. The suspects were apprehended by patrolling police officers and recovered all the belongings and the knife used in the robbery.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
