Despite fundraising efforts and the interest expressed by some corporates, the City was unable to raise sufficient funds on time to finance the Joburg Carnival, resulting in the news of it being cancelled.

A number of artists whose livelihoods will be affected by the cancellation have gathered in the city to voice their frustration.
