Lalla Hirayama and #KrushGoodness set out to change the world for better

JOBURG – Lalla Hirayama opens up about Clover Krush's mission to donate 20 000 school shoes in 2019.

Twenty thousand children across South Africa are expected to receive a brand-new pair of school shoes when the 2019 school year kicks off. This is all part of the #KrushGoodness project by Clover Kursh – a brand synonymous with spreading goodness.

Now in its second year, the #KrushGoodness project is calling upon South Africans to nominate schools whose children are most in need of school shoes. Nominations are open and can be made by following the on-pack instructions on promotional Krush products.

Krush will go through all nominations and by December, 20 schools from across the country will be selected. These schools will then be visited in the new year when children will receive their brand-new school shoes.

Media personality Lalla Hirayama is one of the familiar faces who is involved with the project now for the second year running.

Lalla Hirayama opens up about all things giving back and sharing goodness:

What drew you to participate in Clover Krush’s school-shoe donation campaign?

I’m lucky to say that this is my second time being part of the Clover Krush Goodness Krew! It’s a real honour. In 2018 upon launching the project, Krush set out to show that adding a little bit of goodness every day has the power to change the world for the better. If we start our day with one good deed, it has the power to transform someone’s day, leading to them adding a bit of goodness to someone else’s day, and so the goodness spreads, ultimately inspiring a world of goodness.

What, for you, is of the greatest importance in helping our communities and children in particular?

Children are our most valuable resources.  They are not things to be moulded but people to be unfolded. Many of our children are victims of injustice and aren’t able to fight for what should already be theirs. Love, education, food, clothing, warmth and educational resources, as well as health resources, are not always readily available. These are our future leaders and workforce, what will become of our country will ultimately rest on them. Being able to give school shoes to a child that has none can make a big impact on the way they feel about going to school and giving 100 per cent in class. Self-esteem issues play a major role in how a child actively participates in class and sees school work.

What is the one piece of advice you have for a young fan of yours?

Always remember: You are important, you are smart, and you are loved. Don’t worry what other kids say or think.

Do you remember any celebrities coming to your school when you were a child?

I do remember Miss South Africa coming to school once. Honestly, I didn’t understand what the fuss was all about! I wasn’t really phased by such things but I did see how it inspired others to be their best selves.

What does 2019 hold for you?

Quite a bit actually. I’m never one to say anything before it happens but I’m definitely busy with some exciting things that I’m looking forward to sharing with you in the New Year.
