Pink Bras raise breast cancer awareness in Parkhurst

PARKHURST – Crowds of people wearing pink bras raise awareness about breast cancer.

Fourth Avenue in Parkhurst was brought to life when men, women and children wearing pink bras dashed along the street on 28 October to raise awareness about breast cancer and funds for PinkDrive.

Craft restaurant initiated the Bra Dash event five years ago.

“I have been affected by breast cancer having lost my late wife to it a few years ago. When we opened in Parkhurst in 2013, I decided to do this annual event to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, reiterating the fact that early detection saves lives,” said Pinheiro. “It’s wonderful to see people of all shapes and sizes out running in their bras.”

The short dash goes from Craft to The Jolly Roger down the road and back.

PinkDrive marketing manager Fébé Meyer said, “This is a great event that creates awareness and support from the public.”

PinkDrive will use the money to continue its work by providing free services to the medically uninsured in South Africa.
