The Tokoloshe (2018)

Directed by Jerome Pikwane, The Tokoloshe follows Busi, a penniless woman with dangerously bottled-up emotions, who gets a job as a cleaner at a dilapidated hospital in the heart of Jozi. It is here where she discovers an abandoned girl in the hospital. The young girl believes she’s tormented by supernatural forces. Busi must also face her own past demons in order to save the child from the abusive and insatiable monster that pursues them both relentlessly, the tokoloshe.

Halloween (2018)

Released on 19 October, the cult classic returns for its 11th instalment and is set 40 years after the original film, the plot follows Laurie Strode as she prepares to face Michael Myers when he returns to Haddonfield, Illinois, after his killing spree on Halloween night in 1978.

IT (2017)

This remake of the 1990 TV mini-series had us all fearing clowns again. The film is set in the summer of 1989 and tells the story of seven children who are terrorised by the eponymous being, Pennywise the Dancing Clown, only to face their own personal demons in the process.

A Quiet Place (2018)

Taking place in 2020, after most of the world’s population has been killed off by shadowy creatures that hunt people based on sound – Lee Abott and his wife Evelyn are forced to take a vow of silence in order to protect their family. In the midst of a host of events, the family has to find new ways to survive or be killed by the unrelenting creatures.

Scary Movie (franchise)

If intense horror films are not your ideal share of scares then the Scary Movie franchise is your best bet. Instalments of the franchise always have an all-star cast who take on the horror, slasher, and mystery film genres with a parody spin. Always a mixture of frights and laughs.
