Johannesburg is obsessed with shoes and clothes

JOBURG – Survey finds that Johannesburg shoppers spend more money on shoes and clothing.

E-commerce site bidorbuy has released the results of a survey on shopping trends of South Africans based on their geographic location.

The study found that electronics and computers are the best-selling types of products in the South African online marketplace.

“We did notice some subtle‚ but distinct differences which seem to indicate that shoppers from specific locations do have their favourites,” said bidorbuy CEO, Jaco Jonker.

According to the study, people from Johannesburg and shoppers from rural areas were more likely to buy clothing and shoes than other South Africans. While Pretorians are invested in books, Port Elizabeth residents tend to opt for art and antiques and Durbanites tend towards entertainment with products such as movies and music CDs topping their list.

The study also found that price is the most important factor for buyers‚ followed by product quality‚ then seller’s reputation‚ then shipping and delivery.
