There’s a new police officer in town to sort out family issues and the community is advised to take advantage of the services earmarked to deal with social crimes in the suburbs.

Constable Tsakani Sambo has been employed by the Bramley Police Station to help fight major crimes affecting women and children.

Sambo has been with the Bramley police since 2009 and now she’s been tasked to deal with crimes including rape, domestic violence, sexual assault, abuse and related crimes.

The constable started the position about two months ago and she is already establishing herself well by working with various institutions within the perimeters of the Bramley police precinct.

The areas Sambo will mainly focus on include Bramley, Savoy, Birnam Park, Kew, Sandhurst, Marlboro and Hyde Park.

She said she is already working with nine schools linked to their cop shop, the youth desk, non-government organisations, churches and the Metro police. “I already have a year plan where I have programmes working together with these institutions dealing with crime in a social way.

“We deal with their issues holistically, meaning we will be involving social workers to provide counselling for the victims. We try to understand the situation first before we involve the courts and the prisons to assist with social crimes mentioned.”

The officer encourages residents to use her services adding that working together will help fight the scourge of abuse and violence against vulnerable groups in the society such as women and children.

The spokesperson for the Bramley Police Station, Captain Molefe Mogodi, said they are confident with Sambo in this position.

Mogodi, however, said the position is not new but the previous officer who was in charge of the duties of this office had to be redeployed to another position within the force.

“The management is happy and we hope the community will also feel the same and utilise the services which are very essential in the community that we serve.

“We also have victim-friendly rooms specially designed for victims so that they can get proper counselling in dealing with their ordeals.”
