According to MMC for Public Safety, councillor Michael Sun, the following areas were targeted for the operation:

  • Corner of Bree and Nugget streets where two foreign nationals were arrested for being in possession of drugs (nyoape). They also attempted to bribe one of the police officers.
  • Corner of Joubert and Plein streets where two foreign nationals were arrested for possession of drugs (nyoape).
  • Corner of Goud and Main streets where one foreign national was arrested for being in possession of drugs (nyoape).

Sun said, “The City welcomes the arrests of these drug dealers operating in the city’s CBD where usage and dealing of nyaope is a common sight. We are working tirelessly to restore law and order in the inner city, so it becomes a safe and livable African metropolis. Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba is committed to cleaning up the inner city and as part of that commitment, we will ensure that we rid the inner city of drugs and crime”.
