The Da Vinci Institute for Technology and Management celebrated its 503 students at its graduation on 20 September.

The graduation was hosted at the Linder Auditorium, University of the Witwatersrand. President of the Institute Professor Edward Kieswetter said that’s what sets apart The Da Vinci Institute from other institutions of higher learning is its focus on action-learning that is relevant to the real world.

He added, “When companies send cohorts of employees to the institute, we establish from them what problems they are facing and from that assessment we then use formal studies to develop implementable solutions to solve their problems. These solutions are measurable and impactful.”

Kieswetter added that another unique ethos of the institute is that it believes in co-creation of learning content between professors and students, whereby students are not regarded as ’empty vessels’ and professors, ‘the only fountains of knowledge’.

“Everyone makes an important contribution in the co-creation of new, relevant learning experiences,” he explained.

Kieswetter said, “To those who receive their qualifications today, I extend our warm and sincere congratulations on your achievement. You stand out in a crowd. Many of you have had to overcome great adversity and beat often insurmountable odds to get to this point.”

The ceremony also celebrated laureate recipient CEO of the Gautrain Management Agency, Jack van der Merwe. The Da Vinci laureates are recognised for honourable service in their country through applied engagements.
