Rapist sentenced to 10 years

JOHANNESBURG – A 30-year-old rapist has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

 

A 30-year-old male was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for rape at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 5 October.

The man was found guilty of raping a 30-year-old woman on 14th Avenue in Fairlands in the afternoon of 14 May 2013. Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station Xoli Mbele said, “The victim who was a singer visited him, a producer/DJ, at his place to listen to her song. The accused took advantage of the situation and raped the victim.”

The man was arrested on 15 May 2013 at his residence. After 5 years of investigation, he was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Mbele added, “We shall continue to do our utmost best through our investigation, to ensure that those who commit acts of crime against women and children are put away for a long time.”
