WATCH: DJ Sbu set to fire up Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards

JOBURG – DJ Sbu is set to host the third annual Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards.

Radio and TV personality, Sibusiso ‘DJ Sbu’ Leope has been announced as the host of the third annual Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards (MKHMA) scheduled for 24 November at Carnival City.

DJ Sbu’s announcement follows the many trials and tribulations faced by the awards, one of which saw TV and kwaito legend Bonginkos ‘Zola’ Dlamini pulling out as the host for this year’s awards.

“I was hurt and devastated when Zola dropped us, but now I am excited and blessed that God gave us someone who is more loved by the country and who fits the show very well, I can’t wait for the 24th of November,” said MKHMA founder and CEO, Perfecta Khumalo.

DJ Sbu, a South African kwaito musician, social entrepreneur, club DJ and former co-owner of one of the biggest black-owned record labels in the country, said he was grateful to play a role in preserving the kwaito culture.

“I’m really humbled and grateful for the work the awards are doing to preserve kwaito. It’s important for us to know that we have nothing to prove and to keep saying kwaito is dead because most of the new artists today are influenced by kwaito,” DJ Sbu said.

Launched in 2016, the awards were previously hosted by kwaito musicians Chommee and Skhokho.

“Having DJ Sbu host the awards will motivate and inspire upcoming musicians who come from different townships to work harder on their dreams,” said Mondli Mlauza, MKHMA PR and communications officer.

The awards are the only South African awards that solely focus on kwaito and house music. This year’s show promises fans a night filled with electrifying performances by the likes of Busiswa, DJ Maphorisa, Mshoza, Spikiri and many more.
