#InstagramDown: Social media in a frenzy as Instagram was down

JOBURG – Twitter filled with jokes, memes, and panic as Instagram was down.

Image sharing app, Instagram was down and inaccessible for an hour on Wednesday, 3 October for some users across the world. The app displayed an error message saying ‘couldn’t refresh feed’, while its website failed to load for users.

DownDetector’s Instagram outage map showed that Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban were affected by the outage.

Reuters reported that the global outage comes after Instagram announced on 1 October that long-term insider Adam Mosseri will take over as the new head of the photo-sharing app, a week after its co-founders resigned.

In true social media style, it didn’t take long for the internet to get into a frenzy as Twitter – the next best thing to Instagram – was filled with jokes, memes and some sort of panic while Instagram was down.
