DA to jail corrupt government officials if elected to power

NEWTOWN – If elected into power, DA promises government officials found committing corruption will get a 15-year jail sentence.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) promises to jail corrupt officials within government if elected to power in the national general elections in 2019.

DA party leader and presidential candidate, Mmusi Maimane, said they will not let corrupt officials serve in their government at their campaign rally held at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown.

Maimane said, if they are elected to govern South Africa, any government official found to be corrupt will be prosecuted and jailed. “As DA, we will ensure that anyone found to have committed corruption within government will be sentenced to 15 years.

“Corruption has become normal in the now government but we haven’t seen accountability for their actions. We have a state capture issue but no one has been held accountable but instead, people are being promoted to even higher positions.”

Maimane blamed indifferences, impunity and greed as the main problems that got this country where it is today. “Some have too much while others have too little…I don’t know about you but I want to fix this government and this South Africa as well.”

The presidential candidate blamed ANC for the ‘economic mess’ that the country is facing today saying a new government is needed to save South Africa. Meanwhile, the party also launched its ‘Team One South Africa’ which include premier candidates who will take their campaigns across the country to galvanise citizens to vote for the party next year.

The candidates are as follows:

  • James Sithole for Mpumalanga
  • Andrew Louw for Northern Cape
  • Zwakele Mncwango for KwaZulu-Natal
  • Joe Mcdluwa for North West
  • Jacques Smalle for Limpopo
  • Patricia Kopane for Free State
  • Alan Winde for Western Cape
  • Nqaba Banga for Eastern Cape
  • Solly Msimanga for Gauteng.

Maimane said the premier candidates will work with other party leaders from the national, provincial and the municipal level to drive their message to the voters until the elections next year.

He spoke about service delivery issues citing water, housing, electricity and crime as the main issues that affect communities and said as DA, they will ensure better services delivery for all.
