The Santa Shoebox Project aims to deliver their millionth shoebox next year

JOHANNESBURG – The Santa Shoebox project is calling on Johannesburg residents to give back to underprivileged children.

The Santa Shoebox Project is currently running to collect and distribute gifts to underprivileged children around South Africa and Namibia.

Spokesperson for the project Arlene Leggat said, “Over the past 10 years the Santa Shoebox Project has distributed 762 594 boxes which contain 8 prescribed items. We are aiming to deliver our millionth shoebox in 2019.”

The project calls on local residents to donate through their online platform where they can make a pledge to pack a box for a child. Leggat said, “What makes this project special is that you are actually packing a box for a specific child. You get to choose your child, you know their name, age and clothing size, and then you pack a box that is specifically for them.”

The boxes have to have eight prescribed items which include a facecloth, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, an outfit of clothing, some sweets, a toy and educational items.

There are a number of drop-off points around Johannesburg, with flagship drop-off happening on 12 and 13 October at Stor-Age on Bram Fischer in Randburg.
