Joburg honours living legend Mam Letta Mbulu

JOBURG – City of Joburg celebrates Letta Mbulu’s extensive music career.

The City of Joburg ended off Heritage Month by honouring one of the living legends of song, Mama Letta Mbulu.

Taking place on Heritage Day, the City paid tribute to Mbulu, who has an extensive and rich music career that spans two continents and over 50 years.

The City’s special tribute coincided with the songstress’s 75th birthday. The blue heritage plaque, an internationally recognised heritage symbol, was unveiled at her family home by Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development, Nonhlanhla Sifumba.

“The event emphasised the City’s commitment to preserving South Africa’s rich heritage and to honour South African artists while they are still alive,” said Sifumba.

Festivities then proceeded to the Orlando Communal Hall as a tribute concert in Mbulu’s honour took place, with performances by friends from the music industry, together with rising young talents. Audiences were taken down memory lane as Mbulu’s most popular songs were performed to an appreciative crowd.

South African music icons such as Jonas Gwangwa and Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse also came to honour Mbulu and give a word of appreciation on how she has contributed to the South African music industry.
