MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, has her say on Metro police killings

JOHANNESBURG – Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane shares her thoughts on recent metro police killings.

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, called on law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in apprehending suspects involved in the killing of Metro police officers.

Nkosi-Malobane referenced two incidents – a Tshwane Metro police officer being stabbed to death and the shooting of a Metro police officer in Hillbrow on 13 September. “So far, one suspect has been arrested in the Johannesburg incident following a joint operation by law enforcement agencies. The suspect, who claims to be from Mpumalanga, indicated that his accomplice is a Zimbabwean national.

“An attack on a law enforcement officer is an attack on the state and this barbaric act cannot continue unabated. The province has been robbed of selfless and dedicated members of our law enforcement agencies.

“I am confident that our investigation team will work around the clock to ensure that perpetrators of these callous crimes are brought to book. I again appeal to the criminal justice system to ensure that any individual who commits such brutal acts are given the harshest sentence ever.”

Nkosi-Malobane extended the Gauteng Provincial Government’s heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the two officers.
