Act of kindness for brave firefighters

They donated a variety of food and drinks including energy drinks, shakes and health bars.

On 13 September, Cell C launched its Act of Kindness Campaign in support of the Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) firefighters.

Firefighters have been in the news recently following the devastating fire in the Johannesburg central business district, where three firefighters tragically lost their lives.

The three firemen lost their lives trying to extinguish a fire at the non-compliant government building, The Bank of Lisbon, which houses three government departments.

Cell C – through its ongoing Act of Kindness Campaign – has contributed towards these working heroes whose resources have been stretched to the limit.

The cellphone network company donated a variety of food and drinks, including energy drinks, shakes and health bars.

Head office employee volunteers handed over these items at the Sandton Fire Station.

Suzette van der Merwe, managing executive corporate social investment at Cell C, was also there to show support.

“Our firefighters risk their lives every day and more often than not, their efforts go unnoticed and unrewarded.

“What we have collected for them is just a small token of our appreciation for their heroism and bravery in difficult and often tragic circumstances,” she said.

The three firefighters, one of whom fell to his death from the 23-storey building and the other two who apparently died from smoke inhalation were all laid to rest in the past week.
