Local franchiser represents Africa at international KFC Franchise Awards

JOBURG – SA’s Gunret Foods receives global recognition for franchising excellence.

Gunret Foods, one of the leading franchise operators in South Africa with 40 Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) stores in SA, was recently recognised as Operator of the Year for Africa and represented the African continent at the KFC International Franchise Awards in Orlando, USA – highlighting South Africa’s competitiveness on the global franchise stage.

Gunret competed against other regions such as Asia, Latin America, the United States and the UK, with the award acknowledging the best operated KFC franchise in the world.

Burt Gunning, CEO of Gunret Foods, said the recognition was testament to the robustness and global competitiveness of the SA franchise industry.

“We were quite excited for having had the opportunity to represent the African continent on the global stage.”

Dumisani Bengu, head of franchising and wholesale-retail at Absa, Gunret’s banking partner, said the bank was pleased to have partnered with Gunret Foods through the years.

“Franchising remains a key focus area for Absa, especially given the resilience of franchising businesses in tough economic times and the overall sector’s potential to be a major driver to grow the economy for employment opportunities.”
