JOBURG – Top five beers taking up a chunk of the R984 trillion industry.

According to Business Insider, the global beer industry is estimated to be worth over R984 trillion. It is also reported by Bank of America Merill Lynch that the biggest beer brands dominate the industry with the top 50 biggest beer brands making up 48 per cent of beer consumption.

Below were the biggest beer brands last year, according to global sale estimates by GlobalData Consumer:

  1. Snow

It is estimated that 101, 2 million hectolitres of Snow were consumed in 2017. The beer is produced by CRH Beer Limited (CBL), the largest beer producer in China.

  1. Budweiser

Only arriving in South Africa this year, Budweiser is one of the world’s most iconic beers and has had 49, 2 million hectolitres consumed.

  1. Tsingtao

Sold almost entirely in China, Tsingtao’s history begins in 1903, under the name Germania-Brauerei. The Chinese beer has had 49 million hectolitres consumed.

  1. Bud Light

Bud Light is the highest selling beer in America. It has had 44,8 million hectolitres consumed last year, placing it on the number four spot worldwide.

  1. Skol

Not to be mistaken with Mexico’s Sol, Skol was crafted by a mixture of British, Canadian, Swedish, and Belgian breweries with the goal of creating an international lager. The beer entirely sold in Brazil had 35,1 million hectolitres consumed.
