Mixed reactions to Apple’s latest offering

JOBURG – Users react to Apple’s latest products unveiling.

On 12 September, American tech giant, Apple unveiled three of its latest iPhones – the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR. These phones have edge-to-edge screen display and a powerful A12 bionic chip which is said to process five trillion operations per second.

AFP reported that Apple’s latest offering comes with tools to help users reduce their smartphone obsessions, amidst growing fears over ‘addiction’ and harmful effects on children.

According to AFP, a new screen time tool produces activity reports showing the frequency that people pick up their iPhones or iPads, how long they spend in apps or on websites and the number of notifications received. In addition to the screen time tool, users will be able to set restrictions on time spent in apps. Parents will be able to get activity reports from their children’s iPhones or iPads and impose time limits on apps.

Although the ‘addiction’ part of the iPhone craze seems to be a step in the right direction, a lot of people have a few qualms about the prices of Apple’s latest offering.

Apple iPhone starting prices:

• iPhone XS: $999 (R14674,11)

• iPhone XS Max: $1 099 (R16142,99)

• iPhone XR: $749 (R 11001,91)
