Rosebank community remembers security hero

ROSEBANK – The Standard Bank welcomes the people of Rosebank who came to pay their respects to the tactical service officer who lost his life trying to save a patron from an armed robbery.

The community of Rosebank came out in their numbers to show their support to the family of the fallen security guard hero.

TSU Protection Services tactical support officer Thomas Israel lost his life after being shot trying to intervene in an armed-robbery just outside his place of work in Rosebank. The incident, which was confirmed by Rosebank police spokesperson Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe to have been an armed robbery of a Rolex watch, shook the community and neighbouring areas as it reflected the dire effects and level of crime in the country.

The family spokesperson, Tebogo Maponya, expressed his deepest sorrow at the passing away of one he called a ‘son, brother and father’.

“We are proud to say he died while trying to prevent crime and contributing to a better community. We will keep his memory alive by playing our own role in fighting against crime and we will not stop until perpetrators are brought to justice.”

The CEO of TSU Protection Services, Anton Lume, acknowledged the late officer’s work and described him as one who showed leadership within the team. Israel’s employer, Isaiah Bodigelo said, “Thomas had been assigned to be in the Standard Bank vehicle and patrol, but on some days, he would park the car to be side-by- side with his colleagues which is what happened on the day of the incident.”

Sergeant Mdletshe urged the public to come forward with any information about the perpetrators of the crime as it is still under investigation. “It is a great loss to us as partners and affiliates who always strive to provide security and safety in the community. Israel played his role in the fight against crime and this has had a negative impact on all of us.”

The family spokesperson advised that the Burial Service will be on Saturday in Polokwane.
