75 arrests for Buya Mthetho

JOHANNESBURG – The recent Buya Mthetho operation led to 75 arrests for various crimes.

 

Buya Mthetho (bring back the law) operations between 7 and 9 September yielded good results for the Johannesburg Central Cluster stations, with the arrests of 75 suspects for various crimes.

A spokesperson for the central police, Captain Xoli Mbele said that the suspects were arrested around Mondeor, Booysens, Sophiatown and Johannesburg’s CBD, among other areas.

He said, “Among the suspects who were arrested during the operations, six were arrested for common robbery, two for armed robbery, one for possession of a hi-jacked motor vehicle, two for business break-ins, four for domestic violence and 21 for drunk driving.”

Mbele added, “The rest of the suspects were arrested for committing other crimes ranging from fraud, theft, pointing a firearm, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), shoplifting, possession of drugs and possession of stolen property.”

Most of the suspects will appear at various Magistrates’ courts around the Johannesburg area.
