JOBURG – Top five things to do in Joburg this weekend.

We’ve officially reached the end of August, what seemed to be a really long month, and the weekend is upon us –it’s time to unwind, relax and have an absolutely amazing time this weekend as these hot events usher in Spring.

Check out our top five things to do this weekend:

1 September: Huawei Joburg Day 2018

Usher in September with this popular event which celebrates the beauty of Joburg. A great family day out with amazing music, Huawei Joburg Day 2018 has a line-up for everyone with the likes of Shekhinah, Jeremy Loops, DJ Maphorisa, The Parlotones, AKA, Goodluck, Mafikizolo, DJ Kent, Goldfish, Prince Kaybee, Lady Zamar, Gangs of Ballet, Riky Rick and many more hitting Crocodile Creek Polo Club.

1 September: Ndikho

Written by Sanelisiwe Yekani, Ndikho presents a world known as Ubukho-Ville; a not-so-fictional country which reflects an era of endangered women. The play will be staged at P.O.P. Art and is covered with a dark cloud, cursed with marching men chanting their funeral hymns and burdened by the injustices cast upon the bodies of women.

1 – 2 September: The Jozi Book Fair

The Jozi Book Fair is one the many much-anticipated annual events on Joburg’s calendar. The 2018 edition of the Jozi book fair will include book launches, seminars, inspiring roundtables, exhibitions, book sales, theatre and jazz – a perfect spring affair for the whole family to engage, learn and get inspired.

2 September: August House Open Studio

August House, the legendary five-storey 1940 style industrial building in Doornfontein houses the largest community of pan-African artists under one roof. With its 12-year history in Joburg’s art scene, August House will kick off Joburg Art Week with their August House Open Studio Art Affair on 2 September where more than 60 artists will exhibit their work in their private studio spaces.

2 September: Jazz on the Lake

With free Metro Bus shuttle services leaving Marks Park, Metro Centre in Braamfontein, Killarney Mall and Maponya Mall, you have no excuse to miss this year’s Jazz on the Lake. This year’s line-up includes Siya Makuzeni, Sydney Mavundla, The Zoo Lake Tribute band, Jaziel Brothers and Oliver Mthukudzi. Head on over to Zoo Lake for a relaxed afternoon of Jazz.
