ROAD CLOSED: Security guard shot in Rosebank

ROSEBANK – Traffic is affected due to road closures around the scene.

Twitter is buzzing with information that a security guard was shot on Baker Street in Rosebank this afternoon, 31 August.

UPDATE: 3.49pm

The journalist on the scene, Pieter Dempsey, can confirm that the body of the security guard is still on the ground.

Rosebank police spokesperson Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe confirmed that four suspects approached a victim and attempted to steal his cellphone.

“A security guard tried to intervene and was shot by one of the suspects,” added Mdletshe.

The suspects fled the scene.

The investigation is still being conducted.

Baker Street is closed between Oxford Road and Cradock Avenue.

According to the tweets, the guard was allegedly trying to stop a hijacking when he was shot.

The tweets also say that Baker Street has been temporarily closed off in the area.
