After a massive fire broke out at the Eikenhof substation, the reality is that far more everyday utilities may be affected.
Statements have surfaced from Johannesburg Water and City Power to suggest that multiple services will be affected such as water and power supply.
City Power issued a statement saying:
At Eikenhof substation, an 88/11kv substation located adjacent to Rand Water Board has caught fire causing an outage affecting the following areas:
1) Kibler Park
2) Naturena
3) Alvida
4) South Fork
5) Joburg Water
6) Rand Water Board
7) Lougherin
“This incident may affect water supply to certain parts of Gauteng and Northwest province due to rand water being fed solely from this substation.”
City Power technicians are on site with the EMS team. Assessments will be conducted after the site has been declared safe.
