JRA confirms that reconstruction of Hamilton and Marlborough avenues will be completed in September

CRAIGHALL PARK – The Johannesburg Roads Agency confirms that the reconstruction of Hamilton and Marlborough avenues will be completed in September.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) responded to questions sent to them regarding the reconstruction of Hamilton and Marlborough avenues in Craighall Park, confirming that the project will be completed in September.

Following the article titled, ‘Much-needed reconstruction of Hamilton Avenue almost finished after years of neglect’ (Week ending 17 August), project manager of the JRA, Mikateko Chauke said the road was in desperate need of reconstruction.

“The reason for the road reconstruction was because we experienced potholes and poor conditions in the state of the road over the last few years. We have patched the road several times and it failed due to the condition of the road,” said Chauke.

“Resurfacing of the road was conducted following a visual condition investigation of the road. The roads that are being reconstructed were found to be in a bad condition,” said Chauke.

Ward 90 councillor Martin Williams said, “I must add that the section of Hamilton between Richmond and Marlborough, which has not been reconstructed, formed part of my Integrated Development Plan (IDP) submissions for the ward in 2016 and 2017. The section was in a very bad way. Some residents would avoid that stretch of road because of all the potholes and ruts.”
