John Robbie joins Janice Honeyman’s Snow White Panto this festive season

JOBURG – legendary talk radio host joins the Joburg Theatre pantomime.

Legendary talk radio host John Robbie has joined Janice Honeyman’s Snow White Panto. The radio host will play the role of Major Dumb-Ou of the Royal Palace of Cool Cornucopia in the Janice Honeyman-directed pantomime on stage from 3 November until 23 December.

Honeyman said she has listened to Robbie for years and loved his passion, honesty and confrontation on controversial issues.

“I’ve since discovered that there is also a great fun guy in there, who is keen to enthusiastically take on the humour and topicality of our crazy panto pranks.  Inside his rugger-bugger exterior, there lies a canny wit and a mischievous but mellow interior.  He’s a lekker, normal guy, not pretentious or pompous and I can’t wait to share our mutual sense of the silly,” Honeyman said.

Robbie recently retired after 30 years on radio after having built an unrivalled reputation on the air for professionalism, integrity and fairness.

He said he was thrilled when he was approached by Bernard Jay and Janice Honeyman.

“For many years my mum put on the Christmas panto in my hometown of Greystones in Ireland, as kids we had parts and I have never forgotten the fun of it all. Now, after 30 years on radio, I have the chance to re-live it all again on the professional stage,” Robbie said.

The pantomime also stars legendary South African movie, television and stage star Desmond Dube as Dame Dolla Diddledaddledoodledragon, as well as comedian Ben Voss as the wicked queen Hildegonda Hoggenham.
