Four suspects held for being in possession of unlawful arms and ammunition

JOHANNESBURG – Four suspects between the ages of 27 and 36 years old face serious charges.

 

The Johannesburg Flying Squad have arrested four armed suspects on the corner of Wright-Boag Road and Eloff Street in Village Deep.

“The four suspects were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” said a spokesperson for the Flying Squad, Sergeant Desmond Subramoney.

The officers were conducting their routine patrols and spotted a suspicious-looking gold Mitsubishi Outlander with four occupants, driving along Eloff Street,” said Subramoney.

“The driver stopped the vehicle and as we searched it, we discovered two unlicensed 9mm pistols (Beretta and Norinco) with serial numbers filed off.

“The firearms and the vehicle were confiscated and investigations continue. The suspects aged between 27 and 36 years old are facing charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.”

The four suspects are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
