Pink power kicks off women’s month

PARKTOWN – Women's Month kicked off with the launch of the Pink Power initiative.

A powerful initiative with the theme ‘Recognise, Inspire, Revive and Energise’ aimed to address the issue of gender equality this Women’s Month.

The Pink Power initiative is a women empowerment platform and kicked off on 2 August at Emoyeni Estate. Attended by more than 100 women, the event showcased some of the most successful stories connecting women and highlighting the challenges women face on a daily basis in society.

Some of the speakers at the launch event included Jo-Ann de Wet, chief operations and supply chain officer for McDonalds SA as well as Vika Shipalana, founder and CEO of VBS Luxury Group, covering topics including leadership inside and outside the boardroom, entrepreneurship and trends in women’s health.

One of the founders of Pink Power Tumi Mkhondo said, “Pink Power allows women to share successes and challenges with other successful women, while uplifting others to pursue success to an equal degree and collectively sharing knowledge gained through past or current experiences. The issue of gender equality is slowly progressing but it will take more than women’s month to highlight all the challenges women face on a daily basis in society.”

With the aim of collaborating and supporting women in business, the event included fun-filled scenery and an exhibition showcasing women lead brands including Candi&Co, Sam Star Shoes, BMashilo Designs, Lalalux and #VikaBag.
