#WomensDay: Sandringham Police Station’s heroine

SANDRINGHAM – Dedicated police officer is being celebrated for single-handedly recovering stolen goods.

 

The Sandringham Police Station honoured a heroine in their midst for single-handedly recovering a stolen vehicle, electrical equipment, and housebreaking implements.

Constable Nkele Mbatha noticed a suspicious-looking car with two suspects in Alexandra on 3 August at 4.10pm on her way home. Spokesperson for the Sandringham Police Station Captain Mohlaume Mamabolo said Mbatha followed the car to the corner of Roosevelt Street and 8th Avenue in Alexandra to investigate.

He said, “She tried to stop them while asking backup from another police vehicle in the cluster.”

She followed the car to John Brandt Street in Alexandra where they crashed into a barrier and another car. Mamabolo said that the two suspects jumped out of the car and fled the scene.

He added, “Constable Mbatha managed to recover the vehicle which had been stolen in Sandton. The stolen items include three plasma televisions, clothes, bags, housebreaking implements including two lockpicks, gloves, and screwdrivers.

“She was honoured by the Station Commander of Sandringham Police Station Colonel Lindani Ndlovu for putting her life in danger responding to the call of duty and to uphold the oath she took that she will serve and protect.
