Norwood police launch manhunt following two carjackings

ROXVILLE – The two incidents happened an hour apart in two different suburbs.

Two cases of carjacking were reported to the Norwood Police Station and a manhunt has been launched by the men and women in blue.

The incidents happened in two different suburbs, Roxville and Orange Grove on 28 June and the police are still searching for the suspects.

The incident in Orange Grove took place on the corner of 8th Street and 8th Avenue while a victim’s vehicle was stationary at the intersection.

Spokesperson Captain Elliot Tshivhase said the man was in his white Nissan bakkie when a BMW suddenly blocked his way.

“Three suspects jumped out of the car and one of them was carrying a firearm,” said Tshivhase.

“The one with a firearm threatened the victim, while the other one pulled him out of the car. The other one continued to drive their BMW.”

No shots were fired and Tshivhase said the hijacked driver did not sustain any injuries.

“The car was fortunately recovered later in Alexandra and no arrest has been made but the investigation is still continuing.”

In a separate incident, a woman was hijacked in front of her property in Roxville about an hour after the Orange Grove carjacking.

Tshivhase said this woman had reversed her car out of the driveway and walked to the gate. “She had just closed her gate, was walking back to her car when two suspects approached her, grabbed her and took her car keys.

“They then jumped into the car and drove away without injuring her.”

There were valuable items in the vehicle, including a baby’s car seat, clothes, bank cards and IDs.
