House robberies and break-ins problematic in Sector 2

ROSEBANK – The growing number of restaurants and businesses in the sector attract unsavoury elements.

Sector 2 sector manager Constable Mmatlou Mokoka of the Rosebank Police Station has been in the post since 2013 and shared his thoughts about crime in the area.

“My sector covers Forest Town, Saxonwold, Parkwood and lower Parkwood. In terms of crime, some of the challenges I am faced with are theft out of motor vehicles along Bolton Road and Jan Smuts Avenue,” Mukoka said.

“It can be quiet in my sector without any crime for about three months but when it comes, it is usually house robberies and housebreakings especially during December time and holidays.

He added that the growing number of restaurants and businesses in the sector attracted unsavoury elements. “I need to have operations located all over the sector to reduce the crime that we are facing. So we’re planning to embark on operations that will make us more visible on the street.

“I get a lot of help from the security teams ADT and 24/7 Security Services and they are my eyes and ears because I cannot be in the sector all the time as I am also required to be at the station as well as attend meetings.”

Mukoka established the Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association and they have regular meetings about crime. He also has regular meetings with the security companies at the station every Thursday at 8.30am. Community members can attend the Community Policing Forum meetings and report any crime related problems.

Residents should feel free to report any criminal activities on the Sector 2 number 071 675 6043.
