Hijacker gets 9 years

JOHANNESBURG – The Johannesburg Central police arrested and convicted a man involved in a hijacking on 10 July.

 

A 38-year-old was found guilty of hijacking and sentenced to nine years in prison at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 10 July.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station, Captain Xoli Mbele said the incident occurred on 10 September 2017 at 6.30pm when Itumeleng Mogaisane and another suspect hijacked a 33-year-old female and her boyfriend at a Shell garage near the Johannesburg prison.

Mbele added that Mogaisane and the other suspect approached the car and pointed firearms at them before violently hauling them out of their vehicle and driving off. “The vehicle was later recovered by a tracker on the same day in Dube.

“The suspects took a bag of clothes and fled the scene. Through the help of the community, one of the suspects was apprehended at Randpark Ridge on the 7 February.

“This Good conviction is the result of diligent work done by an investigating officer of the Johannesburg Central Trio Task Team, Constable Khumbudzo Nelwamondo. This should send a strong message to the community that crime does not pay.

“We shall continue to do our best through our investigations, to ensure that those who commit acts of crime are put away for a long time.”
