Two suspects held by Johannesburg police for dealing in counterfeit cash

JOHANNESBURG – Two suspects had both fake South African and American cash.

 

Two men remain behind bars after police arrested them for possession of fake cash, including American dollars.

The incident occurred on the corner of Frederick and Von Weilligh streets in the Joburg CBD.

They were arrested during a police patrol, said Johannesburg Central Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele. “Police were busy with their routine crime prevention when they spotted a suspicious white Hyundai with four occupants,” he said.

“They stopped and searched them. The police then confiscated fake South African notes as well as American dollars from both the driver and a passenger. The total value of the South African currency is R2 700 and two US $100 notes.”

The two men were immediately arrested and detained.

An investigation is underway and the suspects are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon, conclude Mbele.
