New youth club to fight ill disciplines

Orange Grove – The club offers a variety of youthful activities to keep them away from the streets.

An Orange Grove mother is leading the fight against substance abuse and drug addiction in her community and challenges the youth to join her newly formed club.

Lethabo Ramabula, a single mother, has started the Orange Grove Youth Club as a need to assist young people to deal with their ordeals.

Ramabula said the club, however, does not only cater for the youth in her suburb but also the neighbouring Norwood, Highlands North, Yeoville and other nearby areas.

The club offers a variety of youthful activities to keep them away from the streets and as far as they can from illegal substances, especially drugs, she said. “As a single mom, I have been quite concerned about the level of loitering and drug addiction in my area, so I decided to open a youth club,” said Ramabula.

“Our first meeting will be on 30 June where we will just meet and get to know each other, play a few teambuilding games and decide on an official club name.

“Our official opening will be this Saturday, the kids will paint a club banner, we will invite a few members of the community, our councillor and I’m currently working at getting a drumming circle to come and get everyone entertained and involved with drumming on the day.

“It’s a great cause and it would be great to get our club’s name out there so that people can know and come to offer their wisdom or time or resources.”

Even though it is a youth club, she, however, said it will also cater for smaller children to absorb them while they’re still young.
