JEPPE – All the arrested suspects are expected back in different courts soon.

Captain Richard Munyayi, spokesperson for Jeppe Police Station, said a 40-year-old man was arrested with an AK47 rifle with 40 rounds live ammunition and 14 live 9mm rounds.

Munyayi said in a separate room, three other suspects were arrested for possession of dagga.

“The suspects are expected to appear soon in the Johannesburg High Court and Jeppe Magistrate’s Court. Police investigations are still continuing,” he said.

Munyayi said this is part police’s concerted effort to combat the spate of cash-in-transit heists, business and house robberies in the Jeppe police precinct.

He added that this goes a long way into combating the spate of heists across the country. “We’re gaining a momentum through a multi-faceted approach which centres on crime intelligence-driven operations aimed at putting a stop to these incidents.”

The seized items were taken to Jeppe Police Station and the suspects were charged and detained.

Johannesburg East Cluster Commander Brigadier Azwinndini Nengovhela has commended the pro-active approach the members have taken. “This is in line with the current three-month period of stabilisation of the recent surge in aggravated robberies in the cluster and the country.”
